Excited-state mixed valence in transition metal complexes.
Mixed valence in the lowest-energy metal-to-ligand charge-transfer excited state of di-(4-acetylpyridine)tetraammineruthenium(II) complexes is defined and analyzed. The excited state has two interchangeably equivalent ligands with different oxidation states. The electronic absorption band energies, selection rules, and bandwidths are analyzed quantitatively in terms of the signs and orientation...
متن کاملA photoinduced mixed-valence state in an organic bis-triarylamine mixed-valence compound with an iridium-metal-bridge.
Upon irradiation a mixed-valence (MV) state is formed in a donor-iridium(III)-acceptor triad by a photoinduced electron transfer process. The resulting radical and intervalence charge transfer (IV-CT) absorptions cover a wide spectral range (3200-400 nm). These results were supported by spectroelectrochemistry, fs-time resolved pump-probe spectroscopy and assisted by TD-DFT calculations.
متن کاملResonance Raman de-enhancement caused by excited state mixed valence.
Resonance Raman and absorption spectra of 9,10-bis(2-tert-butyl-2,3-diazabicyclo[2.2.2]oct-3-yl)-anthracene (2) are measured and analyzed. The contribution of the individual vibrational normal modes to the reorganization energy is investigated. Excited-state mixed valence in this system is analyzed using density functional theory electronic structure calculations. The resonance Raman excitation...
متن کاملMixed valence and superconductivity.
Mixed-valence (MV) systems are referred to here as MV-2 and MV-3 depending on whether two or three consecutive valence states are involved. MV-3 systems range from systems with Hubbard U>>0, corresponding to a single stable, intermediate valence state, and U<<0, corresponding to stable alternating valences differing by two units. Experiments using inelastic neutron scattering or inelastic X-ray...
متن کاملOn the correlation between the X-ray absorption chemical shift and the formal valence state in mixed-valence manganites.
Here the correlation between the chemical shift in X-ray absorption spectroscopy, the geometrical structure and the formal valence state of the Mn atom in mixed-valence manganites are discussed. It is shown that this empirical correlation can be reliably used to determine the formal valence of Mn, using either X-ray absorption spectroscopy or resonant X-ray scattering techniques. The difficulti...
